LOTR Scarf
This LOTR scarf pattern is a combination of Lauren Kent’s Hogwart’s scarf, Makesmewannadie’s One True Pattern, and Meghan’s Lord of the Rings Sweater. While I did think up the idea on my own, I later found Nessa’s The One Ring Scarf at the gallery of The Official Lord of the Rings Fan Club Fan Art Contest 2003. The elvish writing is taken from my copy of the book trilogy and reads "One Ring to Rule them All, One Ring to find them, One Ring to Bring them All and in the Darkness bind them."

Materials
- 3 skeins Purple(147) Lion Brand Microspun yarn (Sportweight, 168 yd/skein)
- 1 skein White(100) Lion Brand Microspun yarn (Sportweight, 168 yd/skein)
Tools
- 16" Circular Needles, Size US5 (Or double pointed needles)
- Circular Marker (Not needed if using DPNs)
Directions
1. Knit a small swatch to get used to the yarn. (Its slippery and splits easily). The guage isn't very important because it's just a tube.
2. Cast 93 stitches of purple. Slip the marker on before joining the row. (If you're using DPNs you don't need the marker.)
3. Use the stockinette stitch (knit every row) for 10 rows. (About one inch)
4. Join the white yarn by dropping the purple skein and knitting a few stitches with the white. You can weave in the white tail later. Knit one full round in white.
5. Add the purple yarn back in and follow the chart below to create the first stripe (The second one on the chart.) Remember to weave in floats every 3 or 4 stitches. Make sure you start with the bottom of the stripe first so that the lettering will be right side up.
5. Then, switch back to the purple and knit 10 rows. (About one inch)
6. Then, create the second border the same way as the first.
7. Switch back to the purple skein and knit until it is just a little shorter than the length you want. (Mine's about 50 inches.)
8. Knit the third border (starting from the top).
9. Use the lighter color to knit for about one inch.
10. Knit the last border and cast off.
11. Add tassles if you want them.
